Future Trends - Birmingham Interiors 2008

KithKin were very kindly invited by Designersblock to exhibit in the Future Trends section of the Design Interiors show at the Birmingham NEC. This was a great chance to show work to people who would not usually see conceptual design; so we decided to try and work with this.
As the biggest trade show in the country, and with all the other stalls selling finished products, we decided to show the "unfinished" side of design, and express our inspiration and processes of idea generation. This was manifested in the shape of three group projects. The first was a selection of observational photographs that had been collected from our members; illustrating the beautiful moments that can be found in the everyday.
The second was a collection of objects which we created from combining two familiar objects together, both physically and in terms of their narratives. The third was a table of discarded children's musical toys which we rewired to create new noises from their pre-programmed songs, as well as altering their interface using coins and metal triggers instead of the original plastic buttons.
Finally, we presented more great creations from talented designers and artists from around the country, examples of which can be found in the "presents" section of the website.
